A Brief History of Olympia Guest House
Nestled in the heart of Przesieka, Olympia Guest House stands on a site with a long and fascinating history. From one of the earliest houses in the village to a renowned mountain hotel and today’s welcoming guest house, Olympia continues a tradition of hospitality that spans generations.
Every special place has a story, and Olympia Guest House is no exception.
Today’s Olympia was born from a dream and a longing. A dream of creating a welcoming place where guests could feel at home, surrounded by the beauty of the Karkonosze Mountains. It was also born from a longing for family and for Poland, a feeling that became especially strong while living abroad.
Yet the history of this location stretches much further back.
The site where Olympia Guest House stands today is believed to have been home to one of the earliest houses in the village of Przesieka, known before 1945 by its German name, Hain.
🏨 From Berghotel to Today's Olympia Guest House
Before the Second World War, the property was known as Berghotel Olympia, previously operating as Oblasser’s Hotel.
At the time, it was considered a modern mountain hotel and could accommodate up to 48 guests. Visitors enjoyed amenities that were quite advanced for the period, including private bathrooms, central heating, and telephone access.
The hotel welcomed travellers who came to discover the beauty of the Karkonosze region and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains.
Following the end of the war and the incorporation of the area into Poland in 1945, the property continued to operate under the name Olimpia.
For many years, it served tourists and holidaymakers as part of Poland’s Workers’ Holiday Fund network.
Unfortunately, following the political and economic changes after 1989, the building gradually fell into disrepair. Eventually, its condition became so poor that renovation was no longer possible.
🎨 A Village That Has Inspired Artists and Thinkers
Throughout its history, Przesieka has attracted remarkable people who were inspired by its natural beauty and unique atmosphere.
During the German period, the village was associated with artists such as Adolf Dressler, a painter and illustrator known for his landscape works, and Erich Fuchs, a respected graphic artist and painter.
In later years, Przesieka also became home to members of a Buddhist community that attracted many notable individuals.Among them was the acclaimed Polish artist Urszula Broll.
The village continues to inspire visitors seeking peace, creativity, and a deeper connection with nature.
🌊 The Land of Waterfalls and Mountain Streams
Przesieka is also famous for its crystal-clear mountain streams and waterfalls.
One of the area’s best-known attractions is the beautiful Podgórna Waterfall, which draws visitors throughout the year.
The cold waters of the Podgórna, Myja, and Czerwień streams have even made Przesieka a popular destination among enthusiasts of cold-water bathing from around the world.
Many visitors come specifically to experience the refreshing mountain waters and the health benefits associated with them.
